Over Seven Hundred Teams to Play On! This Weekend!

Thursday, June 04, 2009

Major centres in Eastern, Western, and Central Canada will each be buzzing with excitement, friendship, sportsmanship, and hockey spirit during three separate CBC's Hockey Night in Canada Presents Play On! events happening this coming weekend. The events will collectively feature 739 teams, over 4000 players, and tens of thousands of spectators celebrating Canadian culture and the game of hockey in its simplest and most pure form.

In Moncton, 110 teams will gather from across the Maritimes on Assumption Boulevard for the first ever CBC's Hockey Night in Canada Presents Play On! event in New Brunswick.

Victoria Park in London will see a 47% participation increase relative to 2008, with 277 teams from throughout South Western Ontario and the United States participating on 24 rinks spread out over a full kilometre of downtown city street.

And in Edmonton, the City of Champions, street hockey history will be made in the largest road hockey event ever held. The event would have been even larger if it had not reached its capacity before the registration deadline! 352 teams and over 2000 participants will fill Churchill Square in downtown Edmonton to compete for city-wide street hockey supremacy and fantastic prizing.

All events will feature separate divisions for both genders (including coed teams), all ages, and all skill levels; everything from current NHL players to those who have never held a hockey stick before.

We invite everyone to enjoy the festivities, and Play On! Canada!
