CBC's Hockey Night in Canada Presents Play On! made its first ever stop in La Belle Province on August 22-23 2009, when it hosted an event at Centropolis Laval. Over 350 enthusiastic participants came prepared to display their road hockey prowess and enjoy some surprisingly beautiful weather. Despite rain filled forecasts, not a single drop of rain fell during game play which led to some spirited action.

Teams that participated hailed from all over Quebec, as well as Ottawa, Cornwall, the GTA and multiple teams from the United States.

The presence of teams from New York and Boston inspired a friendly trick shot contest which pitted the American participants against the local Canadian talent. Team Canada captured the win with an exciting display of skill and stick work. The trick shot contest drew great interest and as a result, integration into the regular Play On! programming will be explored.

Play On! Montreal culminated in a victory for Elite Champions "On Boeee" who upset former National Champions Royal de Montreal in the second round on their way to the title.

Royal de Montreal will nontheless have a shot at redemption at the National Championships in Victoria BC - being held for the second straight year as part of CBC's Hockey Day in Canada, Jan 29-30, 2010.

Congratulations go out to all division winners! We look forward to returning to Quebec even bigger and better next year and for many years to come.
