CBC Hockey Night in Canada’s Play On! is excited to kick-start the Play On! 2010 season with big events in Hamilton, Ontario and Kelowna, British Columbia this weekend! Both cities are new additions to Canada’s Largest Sports Festival, a program that will visit sixteen cities across Canada this summer.
Hamilton leads the way on opening weekend, with 117 teams taking back the streets along King Street West at Westdale Village. The venue in Hamilton is set and the city is poised to host a great event this weekend. The competition in Hamilton will be tough, but we’d expect nothing less from the Steel City. Get ready Hamilton it’s time to Play On!
In Kelowna we’re thrilled to have seen 90 teams register to compete at Prospera Place Kelowna where teams will take to the streets on Sunset Drive and Water Street. Play On! is excited to visit the picturesque city of Kelowna and expects to offer a great experience this weekend for all participants and spectators. Be sure to check out the BIG celebrity game at Noon on Saturday featuring a couple of your favourite NHL players if you are around.
Teams in Hamilton and Kelowna will each compete to be crowned the best street hockey team in their city and age group this weekend. In the Elite Divisions, however, there is a little more on the line - a spot in the CBC Hockey Night in Canada’s Play On! National Championship which will return to beautiful Victoria, British Columbia as part of Hockey Day in Canada on CBC Feb 11-12, 2011.
