Summer came early to Kelowna. On the hottest day of the year in the city, Play On! arrived on the scene for its first event of the summer. At 27 degrees on Saturday, over 500 players took part in this exciting first year tournament.

Thousands of spectators also came to check out the tournament, which made Prospera Place the place to be over the weekend. The event included a very exciting goalie showdown and celebrity game on Saturday as children and adults alike embraced the festival atmosphere. Sunday brought the playoffs and the action was both spirited and skilled as the event was a great success.

Congratulations to the GRIZZ4L who after a slow start, clicked when it mattered and qualified for the National Championships. The Rutland Red Army, who defeated GRIZZ4L in the finals, showed strong play throughout the tournament and also qualified. The National Championships will be held in Victoria, B.C. next February as part of Hockey Day in Canada on CBC.

Special thanks goes to the Okanagan Ball Hockey Association who provided some outstanding officials for the entire weekend.

Road hockey is alive and well in Kelowna and we look forward to returning next summer!
