While the NHL was gearing up for the Conference Finals this past weekend, there was something special happening on the streets of Hamilton, Ontario. Westdale Village welcomed over 700 participants and thousands of spectators to watch as teams competed in Canada’s Largest Sport Festival.

They played hockey in its purest form; it was truly a celebration of our National pastime. The competition was fierce as teams flocked from all over Ontario to compete. Hamilton teams were looking to defend their streets and show the rest of the province that the best road hockey teams come from the heart of the Hammer. In some divisions this held true... but in others they came up short.

The passion for hockey was alive in Hamilton throughout the weekend. A huge thank you goes out to our amazing volunteers and officials who put in countless hours of their time throughout the weekend, without these folks this event would have not been made possible.

Participants wowed spectators with their jaw-dropping passes, goals and highlight reel saves. The weather and hockey atmosphere was outstanding!

The tournament was capped off by an exciting Elite Final. It was Hamilton, represented by "nWo nWo" versus Niagara Falls, represented by "The Rocky Mountains", the 2008 Elite Division Champions at Play On! London. The Rocky Mountains took a 4-1 lead into the half and were looking to capitalize on the lead early in the second half. nWo nWo would have none of that. Showing great composure, the team battled back and tied up the game forcing a shootout. In the shootout The Rocky Mountains capitalized and won their second Elite Division Championship. Both teams now qualify for the National Championship in Victoria, BC to be played on February 11th and 12th, 2011 as part of Hockey Day in Canada on CBC.

CBC Hockey Night in Canada’s Play On! will return to Hamilton in the summer of 2011.

So until next time, Play On! Hamilton!
