The sun was shining on at least one part of Montreal on Saturday as Play On! held its third event of the summer at Centropolis in Laval. Though Les Canadiens ran out of gas, there was a lot of energy and enthusiasm at the 500+ player strong tournament.
The games were fast paced and skilled. Clearly, we were in Habs country. Whether it was a game of 13-year olds or an elite game, the energy was impressive and it set up an exciting round of playoffs.
Upset over the lack of offense on the ice by the home town Habs, our Play On! players vowed to do better on Sunday and there was no shortage of goals on the asphalt. However, there was also some “Halak-like” goaltending in some important games where the goalies stole the show.
Perennial Play On! powerhouses Le Royal came prepared with a revamped roster after their disappointing performances last season. The changes certainly helped as they won the elite final over Les Bas Rouge. Both teams qualified for the Play On! National Championship to be held in Victoria, B.C. on February 11th-12th, as part of Hockey Day in Canada.
Thanks for showing us a good time Montreal. We’ll see you in 2011!
