Play On! wished Queen Victoria a happy belated birthday last weekend in its own special way – by holding the largest street hockey tournament of the year at Victoria Park. Granted, the Queen probably isn’t a hockey fan, but the event was certainly worthy of royalty.

310 teams from all across Ontario and Michigan competed under the sun in a spectacular tournament that brought the whole community together in celebration. The games were fast and furious and the only thing more high scoring it seemed was game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals!

Special thanks to all of the incredible volunteers and officials who made the event such a success. Your tireless efforts are what makes this program possible.

Congratulations to all of the division winners and finalists who beat out a number of high calibre teams on Sunday to reach the top (Pictures of all winners are posted on the London Event Facebook page). Most notably London “Skank Budda” who defeated the Kitchener Spartans in an exciting Elite final. Both teams qualify for the National Championships to be held in Victoria, British Columbia on CBC during Hockey Day in Canada next February. This is the second time Skank Budda has qualified for the National Championships.
