A Team Captain or Parent creates an account and pays their own registration fee. They then invite others to join the team as players or fans! To finalize a team you must have at least four and a maximum of seven confirmed players. Invited players create their own accounts and pay registration fees to join the team. Each Play On! event is customized by its host community. Typically your team will play at least three games in the "Regular Season" and more if you proceed to the "Playoffs."

Play On! strives to offer divisions that consider gender, age, and (where possible) skill level within each gender and age category. A breakdown of the various tournament divisions is available here. Your team will be automatically assigned to a division based on the constitution of your team. For purposes of Play On! Canada, age of each player is always taken as at Dec. 31 of the current calendar year.

First off, a reminder to everyone who is interested in the answer to this question that Play On! tournaments are about community participation and having fun. Be sure to keep this first and foremost in your mind as you prepare. Play On! events are individually customized depending on the total number of teams that register in each division. This may include the use of either pool or bracket format. All teams are guaranteed their first three games during 'Regular Season' play. Teams are then seeded for the single elimination playoffs. Once you lose in the playoffs, your team is all done! Remember to congratulate the other team and demonstrate sportsmanship at all times. Our games always end in a handshake, no exceptions.

Sometimes, but not always. It depends on what the host community decides to do. Teams should come prepared with their own jerseys (home and away) for this event, including their player numbers on the back (which can be written in with marker if necessary). Teams can get away with bringing only one set of jerseys to the event so long as they are so unique that they are unable to be confused with the jerseys of any opposing team.

The team assigned as the home team is otherwise asked to wear white. Be sure to check the schedule to see who is home and who is away. Visiting jerseys may be of any other colour.

A player cannot register on two different teams in the same event.

You get to tell all your friends on social media! Winning teams from all divisions also receive champion t-shirts and medals. Finalists receive medals. Local sponsors may provide dditional prizing.

Since liability waivers are now all processed electronically, and t-shirts are no longer being distributed to all players, there is no longer the requirement for a check-in event. You can report directly to your first scheduled game. Don’t be late!

Play On! Canada works with the host community to provide a festival atmosphere, including food and other vendors, and other special events. Some events include a breakaway competition or celebrity game. You can also watch any of the other games that will be going on every 40 minutes. Anyone can enjoy the action, which is free to spectators and designed for families. Come out and join the fun!

You bet! In fact. We’re always looking for friendly, community minded people to help plan and operate these community events. In the planning phases, we seek administrative help, including Board Members, volunteer Executives with expertise in finance, marketing, operations, partnership development, human resource management, and content creation. Regionally we seek steering committee leaders and members who help recruit more teams, more volunteers, more partners, and more referees. Operationally, we seek help with building and cleaning up rinks, setting up sound, tents, inflatables, and other festivities. One of the most important in-event volunteer roles is that of a scorekeeper. To get involved, please contact us.

We often call our referees our Game Managers. If you are 16 years of age or older, with interest and experience in refereeing any team sport, then you can register to apply to be a Game Manager at Play On! Just ask any past participant -- we're always looking for good Game Managers! Play On! Game Managers have responsibility to enforce the rules of the game.

Scorekeepers will now keep time and keep score, making it easier for the officials to manage each game. Referees are paid $12/game (each game is 30 minutes, so it is the equivalent of $18/hour, though there is a 10 minute break between each game) and also provided with hats, shirts, whistles, meals and beverages throughout the tournament weekend. Like other participatory sporting events of this type, this tournament operates under a strict no-refund policy. If you need to back out, your registrations may occasionally be transferred to another event in the same calendar year or pushed forward to the following year. Please do not register for this event unless you are committed, and you are certain that you have a committed team.

In the past, a captain registered the entire team. Now, a captain registers individually and invites players to join and fans to follow the team. All players and fans must now register themselves.

If your city or town would like to host a Play On! event, it should reach out to us. Typically, that outreach should be initiated by your Mayor, Councilor, or a senior City Administrator. Play On! will happen when your city makes it happen. You can help by bringing this program to their attention.

We are rebuilding this beloved national program slowly and carefully. We will announce future events as they are confirmed.

Mixed Gender (Co-Ed) division teams must have at least two females on the roster and must have one female player on the rink at all times. Also note, male division teams may consist of members of any gender. Female teams must be all female. The system will automatically place a team in the COED division if they register with a team composition that qualifies the team for the COED division. The team will have the option of playing in an all male division if that is their preference or if there are not enough teams in a COED division for whatever reason.

Please be prepared to show government issued ID at anytime during the event, it is very important to the integrity of the event that you enter your birth date and other experience level information correctly, and that teams consist of the exact players who have been are authorized by the event to play on the team.

Each Play On! event has a format that is customized based on the needs of the host community. Check your event page for details.

You must bring a stick and running shoes. Your team should bring their own T-shirts or jerseys. Arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled game time to sign in at your rink and warm up. Warm up balls are not provided. May we also suggest you bring the following: safety goggles, water bottle, sunglasses, sunscreen, bug spray, hat, snacks, and good sportsmanship!

No. Play On! provides the best quality street hockey balls for all scheduled games.

Login to your account. On your dashboard, you will see a module called Schedule & Results. All schedules will be posted there. Schedules will be posted on the Wednesday before the event by 8: 00 PM.

These are fun names given to various Adult divisions. Depending on the number of teams that register for the adult division, teams may be divided by skill level. An algorithm has been created to determine which division best suits your team. What you need to do is make sure every player on your team enters your information accurately. If you do so, you'll be in the right division. If you don't - well, no one will trust you for a very long time, and that is a bad formula for life.

Teams are encouraged to bring and use their own goalie equipment.

Some goalie equipment is also available on site for use during your games at no cost. Pads, masks, blockers, trappers, and a limited number of goalie sticks and chest protectors will be available to sign out.

You will be asked to leave a credit card as a deposit when you sign out the equipment, but you will not be charged as long as it is returned after your game.

Goalies can be rotated — your team does not need to designate one permanent goalie.
