For Families
New to Play On!? Welcome! This guide covers the practical stuff — getting there, what to bring, and who to ask — so game day feels easy for the whole family. Details vary by event, so check your event page (or your team captain's emails) for specifics.
Getting There & Parking
Play On! events take over real streets and venue lots, so roads right around the site are usually closed to traffic. Plan to park a few blocks away and walk in. Parking, transit, and drop-off details are posted on each event's page about a week before game day.
- Carpool if you can — parking fills up fast on tournament mornings.
- Watch for volunteer-marshalled crosswalks near the rinks and follow their directions.
When to Arrive
Teams should be at their rink at least 30 minutes before their first game to check in, warm up, and hear any announcements. Games run on a tight schedule all day, so late arrivals can mean missed minutes. Check-in locations and schedule links are posted on each event's page.
What to Bring
- Running shoes (no skates — ever!), a stick, and your team jersey or colours
- Sunscreen, hats, and layers — you'll be outside all day
- A refillable water bottle for every family member
- Folding chairs or a blanket for spectating between games
Leave valuables at home. There is no secure storage at the venue.
Food & Washrooms
Most events have food trucks or concession vendors on site, and portable washrooms are placed around the venue. Outside snacks are always welcome. Vendor lineups and accessible washroom locations are listed on each event's page.
Finding Your Child's Team
Each team is assigned to a rink and time slot on the event schedule. Your team captain gets the schedule first — and it's also posted on the event hub linked from the event page. Rinks are numbered with large signs, and the schedule board at the main entrance shows what's playing where.
Who to Ask on the Day
Look for volunteers in Play On! shirts — they can answer most questions or point you to someone who can. For schedule questions, the scorekeeper at your rink has the latest. First aid is stationed near the main entrance at every event. The info tent location is marked on each event's map.
